Nepal’s Cashmere

Known in the Himalayas as the “Fabric of Emperors,” cashmere has been intertwined with communities in Nepal for thousands of years. Following China’s industrial revolution, Nepal’s knitting community faced a massive challenge as fashion brands across the world opted for mass production and the lower cost associated with machine manufacturing. MONK aims to bring the vastly untapped potential of Nepal’s knitting capability to the forefront of the fashion industry. The indigenous nature of the fabric combined with generations of knitting tradition has resulted in Nepal being the source of the finest 100% cashmere scarves and knitwear available worldwide.

Cashmere Care

While dry-cleaning is a safe and relatively easy way to keep a cashmere garment clean, hand-washing your cashmere is the most effective and long-lasting technique and ensures a luxuriously soft garment with reduced pilling. Drying should be done by laying the garment flat on a dry towel and turning over appropriately. Lastly, whenever possible, keep your cashmere garment folded and laid flat as opposed to hanging from a hanger to avoid stretching.
